What if a room could make you feel the quiet pull of a mountain? Standseilbahn Gisela — The Mountain Keeps the Balance turns the logic of a historic funicular into an interior design idea: weight, movement and equilibrium become part of the visual language, not just the engineering beneath it.

At the heart of the project is scroll-driven counterweight choreography. As readers move through the field guide, the composition shifts in measured response—an unusual way to make a technical story feel spatial, tactile and surprisingly intimate. For anyone drawn to interiors that balance atmosphere with a strong organizing concept, Gisela offers a fresh perspective on how motion can shape a room’s identity.
The full design case study follows the thinking behind the experience, from its mountain-inspired premise to the details that give the page its sense of poise. And there’s one question the choreography leaves hanging: what, exactly, is doing the balancing?
